Stu Kenson

Stu Kenson

SK Surfboards designs everything from performance shortboards, to big wave boards, longboards, stand-up paddleboards, and alternative equipment such as fish shapes, eggs, and single fins.
Stu started surfing in 1969 and turned his devotion for surfing into a professional career as a surfer and shaper.  He built his first surfboard in 1972 in his parents’ garage; then glassed it inside the house (it seemed like a good idea at the time).

Early influences include Midget Smith, Max McDonald, and Jeff Mack, all great surfers in the 1970’s and very forward-thinking surfboard designers.  Stu moved to San Diego in 1978 and surfed breaks from Blacks, to La Jolla reef breaks as well as other great spots; he has been surfing and shaping boards here ever since.

In1987 Stu started his own label called Evening Glass.  His reputation grew threw the 90’s; he lead design programs for Weber Surfboards, Rusty Surfboards, and Joel Tudor Designs.  Kenson currently builds boards for Joel Tudor, Derek Dunfee, and some of San Diego’s best young up-and-coming surfers.

Stu also excelled as one of the top rated professional long boarders from 1985 – 1995. Vertical surfing is his forte.  The board designs he brings to his loyal customers, reflects his commitment to high-performance surfing.

Many things are changing in the surfboard market these days. New, high tech
materials are enhancing the surfing experience; SK Surfboards tests them all and uses only the best material out there.  He continues to develop and refine boards that provide customers with amazing results.
